Smoking My Friends Down to the Filter

Photobucket I travel a lot. I write sketches, do improv, stand up comedy, and just artsy stuff in general. I toured with a pop band and it was the worst thing ever. Did some short films that you will never see. I get asked to punch up other peoples work a lot. The credit for the title of this blog belongs to Tom Waits. Someone made a joke on twitter about Bin Laden and Elton Johns song “A Candle In The Wind” and now it is stuck in my head. Even in death the terrorists still win.

WARNING: SERIOUS AND NOT FUNNY PART OF THIS POST TO FOLLOW.

On a sidenote I am always worried when I find myself agreeing with anything out of the Vatican but when they said they will not support the celebrating of another human being killed I found myself in an odd position…either way I guess I have no feelings about this turn of events except that it isn’t a celebration moment for me. I would much rather see a trial and hear any new information that could have been brought to light. From republicans war on terror and democrats calling it BS, to dems claiming glory for the kill. Why I’m a moderate…Just an observation. It just amazes me that something so many people were against can now be spun to improve the image of the party who mostly claimed to be against the fundamental reasoning for being a part of this war. I don’t fall in either camp but seeing how people are reacting and trying to claim credit for this really helps me understand why I’m a fence sitter.

For a much more articulate way to put across how I feel here is something from MLKJ.

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence, you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: Only love can do that.”   – Where Do We Go from Here : Chaos or Community? p. 62
